Sleep Deprivation

Posted in operations research, productivity by Francisco Marco-Serrano @ Aug 26, 2006

The adverse effects of sleep deprivation are very well known by the military which have been studying the matter for so many years. Its effects on learning ability, memory, health, growth, origin of depression, and so on, are nowadays proven.
What’s the matter related with OR?: loads of applications. However, I’m only mentioning one today: lack of productivity at work!!!. Sleep, sleep, sleep, and well!.

PS. Not surprinsingly foes, it is considered the worst torture, even taking the subject to death!.

Company: A Novel.

Posted in books, business by Francisco Marco-Serrano @ Aug 9, 2006

Hi dear all,

Let me tell you what I’m reading at the moment. It’s “Company: A novel”, by Max Barry.

If you hate management books (as I do) you’ll love it. Mr Barry, an ex-HP employee, gives successfully and satiracally interesting answers to all our questions about management by means of the characters/employees of a holding company named Zephyr.

I’m not saying anything else (I’m not the type of guy that would tell you that in “Backbroke Mountain” one of the couple dies at the end of the movie). I’ll let you discover yourself. However, I’m giving you a warning: beware of HR, they’re everywhere…

Are you taking the challenge?.

Better addicted to Caffeine than…

Posted in jokes, productivity by Francisco Marco-Serrano @ Aug 3, 2006

Check this out: http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/ .

In that site you can find dozens of products made with caffeine. In this example you could think this is just for "weirdos" (geeks!, right!) but who has never been evolved with a caffeine addiction problem?. Liers!!!.
We think caffeine increases our superpowers, that transforms us in super working machines. I’m not a specialist but I think the "become-da-supa-worker" isn’t right at all.

However, forever and ever, better addicted to Caffeine than… .

Suit yourself!.
